Daniel Okonkwo, executive director of DC Lawyers for Youth, will appear on the Kojo Nnamdi radio show today, September 1st at 1:00 pm EST.

He will discuss the anti-teen device installed at the Gallery Place Metro stop and how this most recent act reflects the way the District views its youth.

Young people have been involved in a number of recent disturbances in the District, such as a brawl among 70 youths at the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station, and a melee that broke out at City Hall during the Mayor’s Awards ceremony for the Department of Youth and Rehabilitation Services. However, both these incidents were covered more closely than the brawl that occurred recently in the Bethesda metro station which involved teens from Montgomery County.

This summer, the District has focused its legislative efforts on youth issues,  attempting to impose an earlier curfew, expanding access to juvenile records, and establishing a commission to study the juvenile justice system in D.C.
